My name is Miss Imogen Smith… I teach at St. Thomas More Catholic College in Staffordshire! This blog is aimed at providing help to all the super students that I teach. For those that wish to browse, download additional resources or just to ask a Geographical
question… please feel free.
This blog is for you…
My places… A place which has very special childhood memories for me is… Anglesey, North Wales. As a family we loved going to the caravan as many times as possible throughout the year. It was a second home! Special places in Anglesey include; Penrhyn Castle, Benllech beach, Beamaris and our favourite secluded spot… Aberffraw.
A place where I feel most at home is in Snowdonia National Park. I just love the mountains. I love climbing Snowdon, but I also enjoy nothing more than a hike through the rugged terrain of Snowdonia. On a clear sunny day, there is a no more beautiful place.
A place where I have felt ill at ease/uncomfortable was on the London Underground 2004. The smell of pollution, sweaty bodies, the lack of oxygen and personal space and the heat made it a horrible place for me… I never went back on. Especially now since the July bombings 2005…
A place I have visited which gives me the ‘tingle factor’ was up Mount Vesuvius in Italy. The heat and hot steam radiating from the crater just made me think… ‘please don’t erupt whilst I am here’. Although there are no better places for a Geography teacher to pop their clogs! I was expecting a proposal… but that was non-existent too…
A place which gives me most hope for the future is Tsavo National Park in Kenya. A beautiful National Park, which I was lucky enough to experience on safari there. The wildlife, the culture and the landscape makes you put the world into perspective. Amazing.
A place I wish to revisit is Sorrento, Italy. A fantastic port in the Bay of Naples, close to the Island of Capri, the Amalfi Coast and with views of Vesuvius in the distance. Marvellous people and food, sights and sounds and a bustling street-life atmosphere. Would certainly go back there.
A book and song which conveys a strong sense of purpose for me are… book: Wuthering Heights, E. Bronte… Yorkshire Moors… song: Streets of London, Ralph Mc Tell…

Field of Hope sound brill – well done on that one.
Cheddleton hey – very nice. Sure you are not missing all the lovely pollution in Stoke… I will do the same when I win the lottery myself.
Enjoy the rest of the summer Beck see you in Sunny September…
hi miss lol,
does that mean you prefer countryside to city?? i prefer city! dont like the country side and when we went through buxton yesterday for this bakewell dog show thingy they were building houses where it exactly smelt like cow ___….
LOLOL
Good question – I can’t say which overall… but I do prefer one to the other for different reasons. My home… prefer rural for the peace and quiet, cleaner blaa blaa…! For social life… urban – shops, theatres, cinemas, bowling blaa blaa. they both have their perks. Think I am a country bumpkin at heart though!
hi miss! [ME AGAIN!!!!!!!!]
just wondering have you seen in the Daily Mirror where there on about halving the size of bins to stop ppl just throwing away recycled materials!!
No offence like but i still think its a stupid idea like for example we have 3 dogs n 3 cats as well as 4 people and a 3 story house and our bins are to full and friday we had to put a bin bag on the floor!
And we havent even got that many recyclable materials so its a joke really..
Just wanted know your thorts, i will send u a pic of wat is says later on
Matt – any news items send them me and I will post onto have I Got News For You section. As for the idea about halfing the size of bins – well like everything it has its good and bad points…
Me – i have never had a wheely bin, always had an oldfashioned small bin… so I would probably find it easy, plus I recycle everything possible. maybe you should go on ‘Bin Watch’ to check your family are really desposing of waste and nothing recyclable…. let me know the results!
what is bin watch miss? is there a link please?
Literally matthew – watch them using the bin!!! No website there I am afraid – just grey matter (brain)!!!
oh yh lmao
Countryside is a must!!!– im here permenant now–no going back. Glad to say goodbye really not just for pollution reasons!!!!
But yeah its great-waking up every morning and looking at the window to see a hill full of sheep and rabbits-sitting in the local beer garden with family and friends playing good old crazy golf and relaxing to the sound of hens. its absolutley brill apart from it being a three story house an my rooms top floor!!! never mind!!
going have a photo shoot when i get chance-pics will be posted on my own blog so you can check out the amazing views!
better get bed anyway 6am wake up call for work-the joys!!
”absolutley brill apart from it being a three story house an my rooms top floor!!!”
my house is 3 storys and mine is on the top too!
You know how i feel then matt…:D
hi miss are you back from holiday yet?
nice blog I might make one =0…
im tired from d of e practice walk
Well done yesterday Laura… it was a good trip. You showed good teamwork skills. You must now stock up on smaller pieces of crucial equipment in prep for the assessed expedition. I recommend a cap to keep the sun off your face; sunglasses, strong suncream and shortsleeved t-shirts which protect your shoulders.
