Big Butterfly 2007

For those that I teach, you are probably aware that at the moment, my classroom pets are 5 catepillars! Their names are Longshore Drift, Sustainability, Slip-off Slope, Surface Run-off and Headward’s Erosion. I will keep you informed of daily/weekly changes experienced in the Catepillar house… click the link below to view day 1 in the Catepillar house!

Ready for the next installment??? Day 7…

A sad day in the Big Butterfly House…Day 14…

Day 21 – our first eviction… Longshore goes off on his travels… well tries to! We wish him luck in the big wide world…

Since evicting Longshore last Friday… Headwards Erosion has arrived. he is much more energetic and lively than Longshore Drift! He is excitedly flying around the butterfly farm, quite content and enjoying the flowers and sugar water provided (by instruction)… We will let Headward go out into the big wide world tomorrow as he seems the adventurous sort…
There is still one more butterfly to come… Surface Run-Off…!!

Yippee… Surface has surfaced!!! Absolutely beautiful… will record their eviction tomorrow… until then!

Here is the final eviction video for Big Butterfly 2007. Thanks to all the hoose-mates for a superb show. We wish them all the luck in the world…

I hope your individual coursework is going well, and you have perhaps completed your introduction and hypothesis over Easter, if not more! Remember that your hypothesis must compare your chosen river to some aspect of pollution on the river Sow. For example… I predict that the River Sow will be more chemically polluted than the River……

Hello world!

000001719.jpgMy name is Miss Imogen Smith… I teach at St. Thomas More Catholic College in Staffordshire! This blog is aimed at providing help to all the super students that I teach. For those that wish to browse, download additional resources or just to ask a Geographical caravanquestion… please feel free. KenyasorrentoThis blog is for you…

My places… A place which has very special childhood memories for me is… Anglesey, North Wales. As a family we loved going to the caravan as many times as possible throughout the year. It was a second home! Special places in Anglesey include; Penrhyn Castle, Benllech beach, Beamaris and our favourite secluded spot… Aberffraw.

A place where I feel most at home is in Snowdonia National Park. I just love the mountains. I love climbing Snowdon, but I also enjoy nothing more than a hike through the rugged terrain of Snowdonia. On a clear sunny day, there is a no more beautiful place.

A place where I have felt ill at ease/uncomfortable was on the London Underground 2004. The smell of pollution, sweaty bodies, the lack of oxygen and personal space and the heat made it a horrible place for me… I never went back on. Especially now since the July bombings 2005…

A place I have visited which gives me the ‘tingle factor’ was up Mount Vesuvius in Italy. The heat and hot steam radiating from the crater just made me think… ‘please don’t erupt whilst I am here’. Although there are no better places for a Geography teacher to pop their clogs! I was expecting a proposal… but that was non-existent too…

A place which gives me most hope for the future is Tsavo National Park in Kenya. A beautiful National Park, which I was lucky enough to experience on safari there. The wildlife, the culture and the landscape makes you put the world into perspective. Amazing.

A place I wish to revisit is Sorrento, Italy. A fantastic port in the Bay of Naples, close to the Island of Capri, the Amalfi Coast and with views of Vesuvius in the distance. Marvellous people and food, sights and sounds and a bustling street-life atmosphere. Would certainly go back there.

A book and song which conveys a strong  sense of purpose for me are… book: Wuthering Heights, E. Bronte… Yorkshire Moors… song: Streets of London, Ralph Mc Tell…
